Chickpeas are one of the most popular legumes in the world. They are highly versatile and nutritious, in addition to being high in protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. How is so much nutrition packed into such a small little legume?!

So I am trying to eat healthier, more whole food options. My downfall is chips. I love me so good spicy, crunchy, savory chips. It just hits the spot better than a carrot or celery stick would. Before reaching for my go-to bag, I remembered that I made hummus earlier in the week and still had some leftover chickpeas from that !

Then I thought, how can I make these to satisfy my craving. It was my Ah-Ha moment, when I realized I should air fry them! Air-frying makes anything taste better!

I chose my favorite toppings and seasoned away! When I tell you these things are delicious, THEY ARE DELICIOUS! They were perfectly crispy, salty, and savory. Everything that I was looking for!

The benefits of making your own crispy chickpeas, is that you can customize them with any flavor your heart desires. I used cayenne pepper and salt for one batch and onion and garlic for the next.

All you have to do is measure out 2 cups of cooked chickpeas (garbanzo beans) and dry them with either a kitchen towel or paper towels. Make sure that they are decently dry so they can cook evenly.

Place the chickpeas in a large bowl and drizzle with 1 tablespoon of oil. Sprinkle 2 teaspoons of your flavor of choice on top and mix everything until well incorporated.

If your air fryer is small, you’ll have to fry them in batches. Place chickpeas in an even layer in your air fryer. Turn the temperature to 375 and air fry for 20 minutes. Rotate them half way through. Remove them from the air fryer and let them cool for about 5 minutes and Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups chickpeas (garbanzo beans), cooked
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Optional: cayenne pepper or cumin for extra flavor

Directions:

  • Pat dry chickpeas with a kitchen towel or paper towels.
  • In a large bowl, place the chickpeas, oil, and seasonings.
  • Mix to evenly coat.
  • Spread the chickpeas in a single layer in your air fryer. Air fry at 375 for 25 minutes, turning halfway.
  • Remove from air fryer and let cool for 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Notes:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • You can also experiment with different seasonings like cinnamon and sugar for a sweet protein-packed treat!
